IDE in collaboration with Department of Economics submits brief Report on
Economic Development in North-East India: Opporlunilies and Challenges
On 22nd July 2020, the Institute of Distance Education in collaboration with Department of Economics, Rajiv Gandhi University organized a webinar on the topic Economic Development in North East India: Opportunities and Challenges as a part of Cross Platform Dialogues: A National Webinar Series Across Eght Disciplines. Around 190 applications received and of which 127 attended the programme.
The webinar mainly focused on agriculture, horticulture and livelihood diversification, employment; challenges and opportunities, prospects and challenges of industrial development, tourism and economic development, infrastructure development, governance and financial issues, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The technical session started with the welcome address by Dr. Maila Lama, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Economics, RGU and who is also the subject Coordinator of the webinar. Prof. Vandana Upadhyay, Head of the Department, Dept. of Economics, RGU delivered the remarks on the theme.
The three prominent scholars of North-East India talked on different challenges and opportunities of North-East India. Prof. T. Zarenthung Ezung, HoD, Department of Economics, Nagaland University has talked on "Agricultural Marketing in North East India". Dr. Hemanta Meitei, Associate Professor in Manipur University has talked on the topic "Demographic Situation in North East India".
Dr. Amiya Sharma, Department of Economics, Guvvahati University has talked on the topic "Prospect of Assam economy in the coming decade".
The session culminated with the closing remarks by subject coordination Dr. Maila Lama.
